Adavi

Adavi – A community-driven brand of the Soligas, by the Soligas, and for the Soligas. With Adavi, we bring to your home the sustainable forest produces, hand-picked and harvested by the Soliga community in the BRT Tiger Reserve.

Adavi products are completely natural and are collected using the indigenous ways of the Soligas, which helps in conserving the rich biodiversity of the forests they live in. By leaving behind enough food for birds, small animals, and insects which also coexist in the forest with them, the Soligas ensure sustainability in bringing Adavi products out.

In Adavi’s constant endeavour to bring the goodness of the forest to our customers, we take part in the conservation of BRT Tiger Reserve while providing a means of livelihood for the Soligas, the people of the forest

Soligas

Soligas – the Children of Bamboo are the major indigenous tribes of BR Hills, situated in the Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka. For countless generations, the Soligas have peacefully coexisted with nature. They possess a vast indigenous knowledge of forest conservation and reside in settlements called ‘Podus’, located deep within the dense forests of the Southern Western Ghats.

The Soligas’ relationship with biodiversity is reflected in their reverence for the forests, the animals, the trees and Mother Nature in general. The knowledge they possess about the forests they inhabit provides great potential for the conservation of the Western Ghats. The local people who have been living here for centuries, make up their living by collecting Non-Timber Forest Produces (NTFP). They are also trained in the effective and sustainable cultivation of crops like coffee and black pepper.

BRT Tiger Reserve

The bridge between the Western and Eastern Ghats, the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve (BRT) is a biodiversity hotspot located in the Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka. The tiger reserve derives its name ‘Biligiri’ (meaning White Hill in Kannada) from the white rock face which houses a temple of Lord Ranganathaswamy (Lord Vishnu). It is also believed that the name might have originated from the presence of white, misty clouds that cover these hills for a larger part of the year.

Spread around an area of 574.82 sq. km, the BRT Tiger Reserve is home to a wide variety of animals including tigers, elephants, gaurs, barking deer, spotted deer and giant flying squirrels. The forests are also alive with the songs of over 250 species of birds, making it a haven for bird lovers.
